What is Stone Mountain?
Stone Mountain is a beautiful location to visit in Atlanta! Especially during spring and fall. Stone Mountain has a lot of nature around itself and you’ll be able to see flowers and new greenery or the fall foliage. Stone Mountain surprisingly doesn’t have much “mountains” near itself like other mountain ranges. Therefore, the trip there isn’t a tremendous ride.
What is the Stone Mountain Bike Trail?
A bike path leading to Stone Mountain is Stone Mountain Trail. It’s a trail continuing from Downtown Atlanta (Centennial Olympic Park) all the way to Stone Mountain. The trail is 19 miles to 20 miles one-way. Although the trail is fully on paved roads/sidewalks, the ride should take a few hours for sure. A cruising pace will take nearly 2 hours to get to Stone Mountain.

What should I expect riding the Stone Mountain Trail?
Majority of the ride to Stone Mountain felt flat or downhill making it an easier ride there. However, all that turns around for the ride back to Atlanta. The elevation map definitely doesn’t look that way haha. Be sure to have enough energy, food, and water to safely make it back to Atlanta. There isn’t much shade so it can be pretty hot if the sun is out.
I definitely think there are parts of the trail that’s confusing to ride/find. If you can’t find the continuation of the actual trail, go back the trail a lil bit and look around (obvious I know), but there are easy to miss turns or entrances when you’re having a blast on the trail!
Where does the Stone Mountain Trail Ride through?
The entire trail goes through urban locations with many locations to stop and take a break. I would say Decatur is a nice spot to go off the trail and explore the city. All in all, very fun ride with lots of exploring possible. In case you’re unable to finish, there are MARTA stops throughout the 20-mile trail for you to go back to Atlanta.
An interactive map for the entire trail including parking’s and MARTA stations can be found here: https://maps.pathfoundation.org/trails/stone-mountain/
